Health Professional - Heidi Chin
We’re huge fans of podiatrists, our designer is one! What was it that made you want to be a podiatrist?
Sports and exercise has been an important part of my lifestyle for many years and gaining strength is an enterprise and adventure. I wanted to be a podiatrist so it could arm me with knowledge on how to break performance plateaus, reduce injuries, and maximise human movement abilities.
What is your favourite part of being a podiatrist?
As a podiatrist, my goal is to maximise gait and movement abilities to increase an individual’s quality of life. I treat patients for any condition relating to ‘locomotion’ from postural and biomechanical conditions (eg. Flat feet, shin splints, knock knees, muscular weakness, scoliosis, lower back pain, gluteal pain) to dermatology (skin) conditions (hard skin, ingrown toenails, warts etc) and even perform medical pedicures to achieve beautiful feet. Every day, I see toddlers to geriatrics, beginner to elite athletes, mums and dad wanting to get on with their day without physical limitations and also women during pregnancy! I really enjoy the variety in my day. The ability to walk from one point to another is half a battle won in a day of tasks - It is highly rewarding to help my clients achieve this!
What are the most common foot problems you see in your female patients?
Soft tissue conditions arising from ankle instability, postural abnormalities, inappropriate footwear and even pregnancy. Primary stabilisation muscle fatigue and the secondary muscles overcompensate, causing pain. Nerve conditions, causing a burning pain in the balls of feet. Bony prominences, which may cause painful joints (Eg. Bunions) causing bruising, swelling, pressure points leading to callus and corns. Pregnancy, which may cause arch pain, swelling, plantar fasciitis, ankle rolling, tendonitis.
What features of FRANKiE4 do you think could benefit your female patients?
FRANKiE4 shoes have deep heel cups. By having an increased depth of the shoe, you are able to slip in your custom orthotics with ease and comfort with no risk of you ‘stepping out’ of your shoe. The customisable width allows you to comfortably accommodate for a broad forefoot- especially in the case of bunions. Anatomically shaped toe box reduces the cramping of toes, a common culprit for nerve conditions and corns between toes. The firm heel contour increases stability of the ankle.
How did you like your FRANKiE4s?
I love my JENNi shoes in Midas Gold. As a lover of fashion art and style, an owner of too many shoes, with the mind of a podiatrist, and example to my patients, these shoes are a striking addition to my work wardrobe and weekend styling!
In three words describe what FRANKiE4 means to you?
Accommodating, stylish, comfortable.
